WILMINGTON— It was an easy pick for this year’s Mideastern Conference Golfer of the Year as Caroline Cahill dominated the local field and finished third at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A Championship in Pinehurst.
Moving into the final day of the fall golf season on Oct. 27, the Laney High School standout found herself in the top-5 and three shots back from first-place on the leader board at this year’s 4A state tournament.
After firing a two-over-par, 74, the day prior, Cahill posted an identical score during the final round of the NCHSAA Championship at Pinehurst No. 5. Her plus-four (148) total for the tournament was good for a third-place finish among the 78 golfers in the field. She ended six shots back of the individual champion
Cahill won nearly every league match this season and posted a 73 to win the Central Regional Golf Tournament moving into the state event. She has verbally committed to play golf and continue her education next year at UNC-Wilmington.
Jayla Rogers (Laney) and Anna Moore (Hoggard) also earned First-Team All-Conference accolades for their impressive play.
Over the summer, Rogers won here age group in the 14-15 division at the Carolinas PGA sectional Drive, Chip and Putt competition held at the Country Club of Landfall. She helped guide Laney to back-to-back Mideastern Conference Championships this fall.
