Taste of Wrightsville Beach 2016/17WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — The Taste of Wrightsville Beach is back on. Originally scheduled for October but delayed due to the arrival of Hurricane Matthew, the event has been rescheduled for January.

The fifth annual Taste of Wrightsville Beach will be now held at the Blockade Runner Resort, 275 Waynick Blvd. in Wrightsville Beach, on Jan. 21, 2017, according to a press release from The Blockade Runner and the Wrightsville Beach Foundation.

This tasting event celebrates the diverse fare available in and around the beach, the release states. It features samples of more than 30 local cuisines and beer and wine tasting booths.

Prizes for participating restaurants include “Best in Show,” determined by celebrity judges, and “People’s Choice,” chosen by attendees. This year, the organization expects more than 700 people will attend the event.

Money raised by the Taste of Wrightsville Beach will be divided among various island organizations and non-profits. The largest donation, 40 percent of money raised, will go toward the New Hanover County Meals on Wheels program, the mission of which is to ensure meals and social contact for seniors and disabled people during weekends and other days not typically covered by the weekday Home Delivered Meals program in New Hanover County.

The remainder of the money will go toward various other groups. According to the press release, they include: Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project; Hope from Helen Foundation; The Harbor Way Garden (maintained by the Harbor Island Garden Club); The North Carolina Holiday Flotilla; tennis court lighting; bike racks; and future island projects in partnership with the town of Wrightsville Beach’s Parks and Recreation Committee.

The Taste of Wrightsville Beach returns for its fifth year on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, from 5-8 p.m., at Blockade Runner Beach Resort. Tickets for the event cost $75 for adults and $25 for those under 21. For more information about Taste of Wrightsville Beach and to purchase tickets, visit wrightsvillebeachfoundation.org.
