WILMINGTON — Aldi is now hiring for entry-level and management jobs here in the Port City.

The German-owned discount grocery store first started eyeing Wilmington for a new location earlier this year. Zoning for a location at the south-east corner of S. College Avenue. and 17th Street was approved at the beginning of May (read the original story here). Now the store is holding a hiring event in Mayfaire to prepare for its grand opening in Summer 2017.

The available positions pay competitively. The entry-level “Store Associate” position starts at $11.35/hour (with a $1.15 raise after 12 months). The “Shift Manager” position starts at $15.35 (also with a $1.15 raise after 12 months). Aldi is also offering a training-manager position at $21.60/hour (Aldi estimates a 45-hour work week for mangers).

Aldi posted the following requirements for all potential hires:

You must be able to lift and stock merchandise up to 45 pounds. You must be able to multitask and communicate effectively with your fellow staff, while being open to new ideas. Excellent customer service skills and communication are a must, as well as a flexible schedule. We provide an extensive period of training that will give you the tools, skills, and confidence you need to excel at ALDI. A high school diploma or G.E.D. is preferred. You must also pass a drug background check.
