LELAND — Ronald “Ronnie” W. Hammonds, 68, of Leland, N.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, surrounded by his family following his battle with cancer.

Born April 1, 1948, in Wilmington, he was a son of the late James Walton Hammonds Sr. and Cleo Maxine Shipman Hammonds.

Ronnie is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Susan McLean Hammonds; his brothers, James W. Hammonds Jr., and Timothy A. Hammonds; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Vietnam. He loved his computer, his cat “Bobo” and his keyboard, where he liked to write Christian songs. He enjoyed the mountains, where he worked at AppalCart in Boone, N.C. with his best friend, Jim Harrison. He will be remembered as a loving husband, brother and uncle.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
