WILMINGTON — Detectives are investigating after a man was injured in a Tuesday afternoon shooting on Walnut Street.
Police responded to the 800 block of Walnut Street at about 3:30 p.m. after a 911 caller reported hearing a single shot fired in the area, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.
When officers arrived in the area, they found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.
The man reported he was shot, but could not give a description of the shooter. Initially he told police he was shot in drive-by shooting. But police followed a trail of blood to the back yard of a home at 806 Walnut St., where it appeared a scuffle had ensued, Lindsay said.
The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment. The investigation is ongoing, Lindsay said.
