Friday is the last day to register to vote in North Carolina ahead of the November election

The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina before the Nov. 8 Presidential Election is this week.

Residents have until Friday, Oct. 14, to sign up to vote. Forms must be turned into the board of elections office in their county or postmarked by that date in order to be valid. Registration can also be done through the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles offices or through independent groups or organizations working to register voters. Forms turned into those agencies by Oct. 14 will also be valid.

To register to vote, you must be:

  • a citizen of the United States
  • a resident of the county you are registering to vote in, and a resident of the address listed for at least 30 days prior to the election
  • 18 years of age or older or 18 years old by the next election
  • not be serving a sentence for a felony conviction (including probation or on parole)
  • not be registered in any other county or state, or must rescind that previous registration
  • must provide North Carolina Driver’s License or the last four digits of your social security number
