SOUTHPORT — Daniel “Dan” Hermus Smith, 92, of Southport, passed away Oct. 1, 2016.

He was born March 24, 1924, in Southport, to Elijah Daniel Smith and Minnie Frink Smith. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. He later became a master control engineer in radio and television and worked at WBAP, KXAS TV and KTTV in Dallas, Texas.

Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Rener Smith; sister Cassie Cochran; and a brother, Jimmy Smith.

He is survived by his sons, Dan Edward Smith and wife, Wendy and Gary Stephen Smith and wife, DuLari; grandchildren Elizabeth and Robert; great-grandchildren Barrett and Braelyn; a sister, Josephine Stephens; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 in the Northwood Cemetery with Joe Cochran, Jr. officiating.
