Leland Fire/Rescue collecting items for those affected by Hurricane Matthew

LELAND — Leland Fire/Rescue is collecting donations to distribute to those affected by the recent weather-related events in Brunswick County as well as in Cumberland, Bladen and Columbus counties.

Items such as non-perishable food (canned or boxed goods, bottled water), canned or bagged pet food, clothing (must be clean and in good condition), blankets, toiletries and other basic needs will be accepted. Perishable food such as dairy, vegetables, fruits, meat or any frozen goods will not be accepted. Money, furniture and large items will also not be taken.

Donations can be dropped off until 5 p.m. Friday at 1004 Village Road NE in Leland. According to a representative from the department, one of the chiefs will be delivering the items to affected areas this weekend.
