City hosts informational sessions on $30.4 million parks bond referendum

2016-parks-bondWILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington will hold three informational sessions this week on the 2016 Parks Bond referendum that will be put before voters in the Nov. 8 election.

The drop-in information sessions will be held from 5 – 6:30 p.m. at separate locations Tuesday through Thursday, according to the city. Fifteen projects are proposed in the $30.4 million parks bond.

On Tuesday, Oct. 4, a session will be held at Halyburton Park, 4099 S. 17th St. Another information session will take place on Oct. 5 at Maides Park, 101 Manly Ave. and, on Thursday, Oct. 6, the last information session will take place at the MLK Center, 401 S. 8th St.

The projects include, the development of downtown Wilmington’s northern waterfront park with a large concert venue; new gymnasiums and multi-purpose rooms at the MLK Community Center and the Derick Davis Community Center at Maids Park; soccer and mulit-purpose fields, enhancements to Olsen Park and safety improvements.

The $30.4 million bond would be supplemented with other planned construction funds to implement $38 million in improvements. More information is available on the city’s website, including project descriptions, short videos, and voting information.
