WILMINGTON — A gang member is wanted in connection with a shooting Tuesday afternoon in the Houston Moore Public Housing Community that inured a 39-year-old man.

Hakiem Sherif Williams, 20, of Wilmington, is wanted on charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, according to Wilmington Police Department Spokeswoman Cathryn Lindsay.

The charge stems from a shooting in the 100 block of East Plaza at about 2:30 p.m., Lindsay said. The 39-year-old man was driven to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle. The victim has since been treated and released from the hospital.
