WILMINGTON – Joan Prosch Marston of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away at Bradley Creek Health Center at Carolina Bay on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016.

Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 6, 1929, she was the daughter of Gus Joseph Prosch and Irene Grace Prosch.

She grew up in Birmingham, attended Birmingham Southern College and later graduated from Blue Mountain Women’s College in Mississippi.  The summer before graduation, she attended summer school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she met Richard Henry Marston Jr., who had recently returned to Chapel Hill to finish his degree after serving in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.  After their respective graduations, Joan and Richard married in June 1949 and moved to Wilmington, where Mr. Marston was employed by the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company.  Mr. and Mrs. Marston were married for 67 years and resided in Wilmington for the remainder of her life.  While raising their four children, she was involved in various church and civic activities.  However, her focus always remained on her family and her faith in God.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Marston Jr.

She is survived by her children, Katrina Marston Morton (Robert), Richard Henry Marston III, Julie Marston Garrison (Michael), and Michael Randolph Marston; by seven grandchildren, Robert Glenn Morton (Erica), Kathryn Morton Hardin (James), Jamie Marston Bass (Brad), Karen Grace Garrison, David Michael Garrison, Wesley Stephen Garrison (Ashley), Russell Eugene Garrison; and nine great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Polly Prosch Walton of Birmingham, Alabama, a sister-in-law Hilda Marston Langley of Frederick, Maryland, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening, Sept. 28, 2016, from 6-8 p.m., at Andrews Mortuary on Market Street.  A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at Oleander Memorial Gardens Chapel with Reverend David Robinette officiating.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Administration and Caregivers at Bradley Creek for their kindness to our Mother during her stay.
