Ashley soccer continues unbeaten streak in conference; Laney volleyball outlasts Topsail in five

The Screaming Eagles extended its unbeaten streak inside league play following a 6-0 shutout against West Brunswick on Thursday.

Ashley notched four goals in the opening 40 minutes and tallied twice more after the break. Goal keeper Jake Wilcox posted clean sheet, while Jeffry Centeno scored two goals. Jacob Reeves, Elijah Akins, Cale Manning and Geovany Avila also found the back of the net.

With the win, the Screaming Eagles moved to 4-0 atop the division standings and 6-2-1 overall.

 Fayetteville Academy 2   Cape Fear Academy 0

Cape Fear Academy dropped its first game in conference as Fayetteville Academy handed the Hurricanes a 2-0 setback. Fayetteville got on the board just 60 seconds into the match and put in an insurance goal midway through the second half.

Cape Fear Academy fell to 5-1 in league play and 11-4 overall. The Hurricanes play at home against Coastal Christian on Friday.

Volleyball

The Bucs rallied from down two games to pull out a 3-2 victory in a five-set comeback against Topsail.

Hannah Freas led the attack with 14 kills, while Alex Erling keyed the passing game with 23 assists. Meredith Pooley recorded a team-high 32 digs. Laney moved to 4-3 in conference and 7-4 overall.

Kaylee Kyle led Topsail with 18 assists. Selena Biele recorded 20 digs. Victoria Elder and Angelica Biele had 11 kills apiece. The Pirates dropped to 3-3 in the division and 7-4 on the year.
