Hoggard (1-4) at South Brunswick (1-4)

Hoggard Coach Craig Underwood remains optimistic about his group moving into the second quarter of the season even with just one win through five games. The Vikings are 0-3 on the road, but should be able to take their first step towards getting back to Hoggard football come Friday night against a struggling South Brunswick squad.

Player to Watch: Josh Jones, junior, quarterback: Jones has completed nearly 60 percent (52-of-88) of his passes this season. He’s also become a bigger threat in the run game as of late, averaging 62.2 yards per game. The junior quarterback has a good handle of the offense, but still looking to find a complete effort from start to finish. Friday’s game at South Brunswick could get the Vikings’ offense on track.

After an impressive win back in week one, the Cougars have dropped four straight moving into their conference opener. South Brunswick has been outscored 191-83 in five games.

Like many football teams, Hoggard has had to deal with several injuries at key positions on both sides of the ball. The absence of senior wide out Collin Hairr has opened the door for Chet Radack and Tre Houser in the passing game. They’ve combined for 25 catches and nearly 400 yards receiving.

The dynamic backfield duo of Tony Allen and Rashod Wallace returned to form with Wallace’s return in week four after missing Hoggard’s matchup against Carolina Forest. Allen and Wallace have 62 carries apiece, with 647 total rushing yards and eight touchdowns.  Wallace has shown great vision with the ball to go along with Allen’s hard nosed running style.

The Hoggard defense will be tasked with trying to stop South Brunswick running back Josh Carter, who has nearly 100 carries and three 100 yard rushing games. Defensively, junior Christian Hollar has stood out for the Vikings, with a team-high 39 tackles, six tackles for loss and one interception.
