WILMINGTON – David Palmer Bennett, 54, passed away on Sept. 17, 2016.
He entered this world on Resurrection Sunday April 2, 1961, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
He was the third son born to Dr. Bill L. Bennett Sr. and Doris Faye (Palmer) Bennett (who passed away October 29, 2010), after his elder brother, Dr. Bill L Bennett Jr. of Dothan, Alabama, and other brother Phillip Judson Bennett, who preceded him in death on May 22, 2012.
Mr. Bennett loved music He was involved in school choirs and sang in the music program at his church, Southside Baptist Church.
Mr. Bennett was a licensed barber. He kept his license current, looking toward the future.
He was an avid sports fan. He played all sports in high school and was a living encyclopedia of sports trivia. He could engage anyone in the details of past seasons of your choice. He had a , etc. of all AFI, NFL and SEC teams.
David married Kathrin “that’s Kathi with an I” McKenzie on April 18, 1998. Their’s was a love built on God’s Word and plan for marriage. They trusted God to care for and provide for them through all life’s potholes.
MS struck him at the age of 27. However MS never defeated him. Mr. Bennett never gave in to self pity and bitterness. One time, his church prayed over him for complete healing. When asked “What if you are not healed?” His strong, contented reply was, “He’ll heal me here or there.”
David is survived by his wife Kathi, his father, brother, many family members and friends.
The family invites you to join them at Southside Baptist Church, 3320 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412, on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, for a visitation from 6-7 p.m. A service of celebration will follow at 7 p.m. Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at the family cemetery in Calabash, NC.
