WILMINGTON – James Alexander “Andy” Wells, 70, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Sept. 15, 2016.

He was born Nov. 25, 1945, to the late Velva Elmer Gore Wells and Alec Wells of Wilmington, NC.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Blanton Wells; three children, Terri Sellars Carr and husband, Terrence, Lynette Holden and husband, Robert Mead, and Tommy Lanier Sellars and wife, Glenda, all of Wilmington.

He is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Leslie Holden, Thomas Sellars, Nicholas Sellars, Christopher Sellars, Phillip Carr, Megan Carr, Paisley Sellars, Marilyn Sellars, Owen Sellars, and Caroline Sellars all of Wilmington; sister, Ann Marsh and husband Tommy; and brother David Wells and wife Tommie; and many nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Virginia Wells House and Velva Jean Cavenaugh preceded him in death.

Andy grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina, and served honorably in the United States Navy. He was a firefighter for the city of Wilmington, and captain for the Fire Department at Sunny Point.

He worked for many years for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department including the Dare Program. He was active in the community as a Member of the New Hanover County Board of Education and a Minister at Camp Clearwater in White Lake.

Mr. Wells was always there for the children, either as Santa Claus or as their Little League coach. His commanding presence, his humor and his love for his family and friends will be missed.

Join the family on Saturday Sept. 17, 2016, at the Pine Valley Church of God, 3810 Shipyard Blvd. at 1 p.m. for the visitation. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
