KURE BEACH – Ronald Griffin, 83, of Kure Beach, passed away at home with his family at his bedside on Sept. 6, 2016.

He was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George C. Griffin and Mary H. Luster, by his loving wife Frances A. Griffin, and his brothers Warren Griffin and Allan Griffin.

He is survived by his son Bradley Griffin and his wife LeeAnne, daughter Adrienne Griffin, daughter Sandra Moore and husband James, daughter Irene Slevin, sister Janice Fodor, sister Georgeann Kaspriske, his eight cherished grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Griffin was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served four years during the Korean War era. He graduated from Rutgers University before obtaining his Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT.

He was a 21-year resident of Kure Beach and had retired from a 33-year career in Aerospace Engineering in California and Maryland.

Mr. Griffin was the Line Dance Instructor at both the Carolina Beach and Kure Beach locations. His other retirement activities included genealogy, creation and administration of websites, doing volunteer work for the town of Kure Beach, serving as an officer with the Federal Point Historic Preservation Society and participating in the Music Ministry at the Kure Memorial Lutheran Church.

A viewing will take place at from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at Kure Memorial Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Keck officiating. Interment will follow in Federal Point Cemetery, with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard.

Monetary contributions in his memory may be sent to Kure Memorial Lutheran Church at 117 North Third Ave., Kure Beach as well as Federal Point Historic Preservation Society at 1121 N.
