Ethel Jeannene Henderson, 80, worked 28 years in banking

jeannene-hendersonWILMINGTON – Ethel Jeannene Henderson, 80, of Wilmington, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at home.

Jeannene was born Oct. 24, 1935 in Copperhill, Tennessee, daughter of the late Elmer Ray Lewis and Ethel Hyde Lewis. Her husband, James “Jim” Henderson, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Henderson met Jim, the love of her life, while they were students at the University of Tennessee and they were married for 40 years prior to his death.  She worked in the banking industry for over 28 years. While residing in Morganton, North Carolina, she was a member of the First Baptist Church and also served as an officer in the Pilot Club. She became an active member of Village Drive Baptist Church after their move to Fayetteville, North Carolina. After Jim’s death she retired in Wilmington, where she enjoyed fellowship with the women in her Sunday School class, knitting, gardening, and reading. She cherished spending time with her daughters, her grandchildren, and her faithful feline companions.

She is survived by three daughters, Melanie Mayer (Harry) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Dawn Roberts (Frank) of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Laura Hanan (Frank) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and six grandchildren, Drew and Lauren Mayer, Kali and Will Roberts, and Madison and Sydney Hanan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Andrews Market Street Chapel with Dr. Mack Roberts officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jeannene’s memory may be made to the donor’s local Humane Society.
