WILMINGTON – Rachel Kincaid Garrett, 79, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center. She was born Oct. 30, 1936 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Raymond and Mallie Teague Kincaid, who predeceased her.
She was known for her musical talents, having played the organ and directed choirs at several churches around Wilmington. She was the co-founder of the Wilmington Chapter of Sweet Adelines in 1976. She was also a real-estate agent for 11 years until her pride and joy, her grandson Garrett, came along and she wanted to spend more time with him.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years Maxcy Ernest Garrett, Jr.; daughters Tracie Michelle Garrett, Jamie Garrett Parker; and grandson Garrett Edward Parker of Raleigh. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Kincaid and his wife Judy, of Greensboro; sisters-in-law Sharon Kincaid of Greensboro and Shirley Cockerill of Sumter, South Carolina; nine nieces and nephews and their children. Rachel will be greatly missed by her dog, Serena and five grand-dogs. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Douglas Ray Kincaid (Sharon) and brother-in-law Bill Cockerill (Shirley).
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Lake Forest Baptist Church at 2 p.m., followed by visitation with the family in the fellowship hall.
