UPDATE: At about 2:45 p.m. Thursday, the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office announced it has safely located Shayla Bryant and her 1-year-old son. Dwight Powell, 20. turned himself in for questioning without incident.

BRUNSWICK COUNTY – The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office today released a description of the man it says may be holding an area woman and her 1-year-old son against their will.

Detectives say Shayla Da’nia Bryant and her son, Alijah, were last seen by family members Saturday morning around 8:30 a.m. at the scene of the shooting in the 500 block of Cedar Grove Road.

The shooting was at the intersection of Cedar Grove and Stone Chimney roads between people in a car and in the street, according to the sheriff’s office. While there were no injuries, the police believe Bryant and the infant left the scene with a man described as a “person of interest” in the shooting, 28-year-old Dwight Powell Jr.

The latest description of Powell comes from 2015 arrest. At the time, he weighed 215 pounds and had long, black braids and/or dreads. Powell is 5 feet 10 inches tall and has a neck tattoo.  Powell is considered armed and dangerous.

Dwight Powell Jr. is listed as a 'person of interest' in a Supply shooting on Saturday and possibly linked to the disappearance of a woman and her 1-year-old son.
