Angel Jovani Hernandez Barriga, 13, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.
He was born October 2, 2002. His sudden passing has saddened tremendously his family and the community he has been a part of since birth. Angel was a student at Myrtle Grove Middle School in Wilmington. He was a happy young boy who always had a smile on his face. He had a unique sense of humor and making his mother laugh was something he aimed at every day!
Learning new things, going to school and making new friends was important to Jovani. One would ask him “How’s school going?” He would reply, “Going OK, I struggle with reading but just have to try harder.” Like many kids his age, he enjoyed spending time with his friends, playing soccer, listening to music and riding bikes.
His teachers loved him and described him as “joyful, loyal, kind, a hard worker who was also a friend to all.” Another teacher called him “a gentle giant for our classroom … he was so sweet and the kindest, most respectful boy … his huge smile brightened our morning … he truly cared about people….”
His friends began feeling his absence right away and a deep sense of loss. They shared he was polite and very considerate at all times: “It was easy to get along with Jovani.”
Angel Jovani is survived by his parents Gloria Barriga and Senorino Hernandez and his siblings Jorge Hernanez, Silvia Hernandez and Alexis Hernandez.
