HAMPSTEAD – High school football programs are now in full pads, ahead of scrimmages over the next few days that will lead the teams to week one of the 2016 regular season on Friday, Aug. 17. Our training camp tour recently traveled to Hampstead for a look at the Topsail Pirates.

Topsail has struggled to gain traction in the split 3A/4A Mideastern Conference, but Coach Wayne Inman has had some success in getting his players onto the next level. He will have some holes to fill on the offensive line after a pair of 2015-16 alumni has gone on to play college football.

As far as returners, Jacob Floyd has a year of varsity experience under his belt as the junior looks to continue his development at quarterback. Coming off a breakout season during his first year in Hampstead, running back D.J. Montano has the potential to be a 1,000 yard rusher as a sophomore, while Jarret Radley and Hank Jacobs have big shoes to fill up front.

Trey Ayres will be asked to anchor the defense at linebacker. Jacob Stadsvold (CB/LB); Aaron Pacheco (WR/FS) and Trey Brown (WR/CB) are also looking to help make Topsail competitive heading into their five-game non-conference schedule beginning with a week one home matchup against Trask.

Scroll down below for interviews with Coach Inman, Pacheco and get highlights from this week’s practice.
