Mary Jo Hundley was born in Henry County, Georgia on February 29, 1928. She died Saturday, August 6, 2016. She was 88. She was known as GiGi to her great granddaughters and Mom to the family. She passed peacefully to her eternal home surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Moody Hundley and two young sons, Rocky and Bradley, as well as her parents Troy and Essie Crumbley and five brothers, Harold, Bill, Walter, Harry and Russell.

Those left to cherish her memory are two beloved daughters and their husbands, Lynn (Robert) Hurley of Nashville, N.C. and Holden Beach, N.C. and Joy (John) Fisher of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughter, Wendi (Chris) Garlow of League City, Texas; two great granddaughters, Jordan and Kristyn; and a very dear friend for many years, Jim Hanson of Wilmington, and much loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her salvation is secure because God’s word is sure.

Mary Jo’s first passion was for God and his word and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and Mom to her sons-in-law. Her happiest moments were spent with those she loved.

The second passion for Mary Jo was spending time in God’s garden and volunteering in the Salvation Army Auxiliary for 40 years, being a charter member of Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, ushering at Thalian Hall, and being involved with several other local charities.

She was an inspiration to younger female athletes. For years she won medals at the North Carolina Senior Games in Raleigh in tennis and swimming in her age brackets – 60s, 70s and 80s.

There will be a celebration of life for Mary Jo at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2016 with Pastor Jim Glasgow. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, 800 Piner Rd., Wilmington, NC 28409 or the Salvation Army, 820 N. Second St., Wilmington, NC 28401.
