Mary Jo Crumbley Hundley, 88, was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Henry County, Ga. She passed peacefully to her eternal home surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Jo’s first passion was for God and his word and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Mom to her sons-in-law. Her happiest moments were spent with those she loved.

Her second passion was spending time in God’s garden and volunteering in the Salvation Army Auxiliary for 40 years. She was a charter member of Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, ushered at Thalian Hall and assisted several other local charities.

She was an inspiration to younger female athletes. For years she won medals at the North Caroline Senior Games in Raleigh in tennis and swimming in her age brackets — 60s, 70s and 80s.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Moody Hundley; two sons, Rocky and Bradley; her parents, Troy and Essie Crumbley; and five brothers, Harold, Bill, Walter, Harry and Russell.

Left to cherish her memory are two beloved daughters, Lynn Hurley (Robert) of Nashville, N.C., and Holden Beach, N.C., and Joy Fisher (John) of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughter, Wendi Garlow (Chris) of League City, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Jordan and Kristyn; a dear friend for many years, Jim Hanson of Wilmington, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

There will be a celebration Mrs. Hundley’s life at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, led by Pastor Jim Glasgow. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church, 800 Piner Road, Wilmington, NC  28409, or to the Salvation Army, 820 N. Second St., Wilmington, NC 28401.
