Hazel Bonham Harris, 83, worked as a nurse in New York and Wilmington

WILMINGTON – Hazel Bonham Harris, 83, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away peacefully from this life unto eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016, at her home.

She was born April 14, 1933, in Wilmington, N.C., the daughter of the late Collie Bonham and Bertha Hope Bonham.

She graduated from the James Walker School of Nursing in 1954, then worked in New York as an operating room nurse before coming back to Wilmington, N.C., and retiring as an occupational nurse at International Paper. She was a strong-willed, generous and loving person who cared for others in many ways throughout her life. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed and felt blessed to spend time in the company of her family.

She was a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church and had a strong faith in God.

Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Robert Santome (Janet), Wayne Santome, Terry Adams (Russell) and Susan Hartman (Brian); eight grandchildren, Crystal Cameron, Courtney Cameron Bartolo, Jennifer Adams, Adam Santome, Anthony Cameron, Jourdan Santome, Bridgette Zanier and Chris Adams; a great-grandchild, Jordynn Santome; a sister, Louise St. John; and numerous other loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at Northside Baptist Church, 2501 N. College Road, Wilmington, N.C., with Pastors Rob Strickland and Mike Morley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Adam Santome, Anthony Cameron, Jourdan Santome, Chris Adams, Conor Bartolo, Grant Billmeier and Vinny Zanier.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or to the charity of one’s choice.
