Steve George Hartsell 79, of Oak Island, N.C., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at New Hanover Hospital.

Mr. Hartsell was born in Iredell County, a son of the late Flake S. and Catherine R. Hartsell.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as district sales manager with Estes Express Lines of Greensboro, N.C. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to Oak Island in 2006.

Mr. Hartsell was a member of Oak Island Evangelist Presbyterian Church. He was an avid reader, passionate golfer and part-time fisherman.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Carolyn W. Hartsell; daughter, Vicky Davis and (Allan) of Graham, N.C.; sons, Gary Hartsell of Randleman, N.C., and Scott Hartsell of Kernersville, N.C.; grandsons; Jack Davis and Steven Davis; brothers, Jerry Hartsell (Janet) of Greensboro, N.C., Randell Hartsell (Sharon) of Lyman S.C., brother-in-law, Douglas Gray of Oak Island, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Brenda Saunders and Cindy Lawson, both of Greensboro, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016,, at Oak Island Evangelist Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Walter Taylor presiding. A reception will follow the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, the American Heart Association or Oak Island Evangelist Presbyterian Church.
