Florine Harris Hale, 102, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at the home of her son, Andy Hale.
She was born April 21, 1914, in Halifax County, N.C., the youngest of seven children of the late Henry Jackson Harris and Martha Eliza Hardy Harris.
Mrs. Hale was a registered nurse, having received her diploma from the Rocky Mount Sanitarium Training School for Nurses on Aug. 19, 1938. She received her certification from the North Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners on Nov. 4, 1938, and her Nurse’s Certificate of Registration on Feb. 24, 1939. Her first employment as a nurse was with Duke Hospital in Durham, N.C. Later she worked at James Walker Hospital in Wilmington, N.C., and Babies Hospital near Wrightsville Beach. She was a member of Sunset Park Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Hale; a son, Gilbert Leon Hale; and siblings, Fred, Chester, Mack, Curtis and Roosevelt Harris, and Allie Banta.
Surviving are her sons, John Thomas Hale (Wanda) of Concord, N.C., and Andy Wayne Hale (Dianne) Wilmington, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Hale.
Mrs. Hale’s family would like to express thanks and appreciation to Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their care and concern, especially her social worker, Carol Bennett; her nurse, Genna Wooten; and CNA’S Adrianne and Renee.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St., Wilmington, N.C. A funeral service, with the Rev. Chris Wroten officiating, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
