Lloyd Franklin Grainger, 79, Air Force veteran and longtime mechanic at International Paper

Lloyd Franklin “Catfish” Grainger, 79, of Wilmington, NC., passed on July 19, 2016.

He was born Dec. 6, 1936, in Clarendon N.C., to the late Elbert and Sarah Grainger.

Lloyd was an airman in the U.S. Air Force, spending most of his enlisted time as a jet engine mechanic in Japan. He retired from International Paper after 40 years as a mechanic.

He was a recliner enthusiast and duct tape-MacGyver who enjoyed spending his free time with his grandkids and watching NASCAR on Sundays.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bill Grainger.

He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Eagle; sister-in-law, Shirley Grainger; three nephews and a niece.

He was a loving husband to Deborah Grainger and father/stepfather to Debbie Ganey, Linda Ward, Wendy Grainger, Jacqueline Salcedo, Samantha Parks and George Parks. He will forever be remembered as “PawPaw” to an abundance of adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday July 23, 2016, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington N.C. A celebration of life, officiated by Wilma Skipper, will follow at 2 p.m.
