Gertrude Taylor Irving, age 98, passed quietly on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Ocean Trail Nursing Home in Southport, N.C.
She was born Sept. 17, 1917, in New Hanover County, and was a long-standing member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Island, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine Pellitier Taylor and James Luther Taylor; her daughter, Jeanne Walls; and her husband of 64 years, Frank Bishop Irving Sr.; and 12 brothers and sisters, Wilber, Eckert, Elliott, Josephine, James Earl, Chester, James William, Lorraine, Otis, Leroy, Dillon and Jonathan.
She is survived by two sons, Frank (Sue) Irving Jr. of Nakina, N.C., and Guilford (Jean) Irving of Leland, N.C.; one brother, Lyman Taylor of Atlanta Ga.; one sister, Kathleen Dodd of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at the First Baptist Church of Oak Island. The funeral service, led by the Rev. Charlie Carter, will follow at 11 a.m. Pallbearers will be Gertrude’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Following the service, interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington N.C.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ocean Trail Nursing Home and the staff of The Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their kind words and help throughout the end of Gertrude’s life.
