Jerry Simpson Pool, 83, of Winnabow, N.C., formerly of High Point, N.C., died Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Brunswick Cove Living Center in Winnabow.

He was born Nov. 9, 1932, in Canyon, Texas, son of the late Lenton Samuel Pool and Angie Lauretta Simpson Pool. His brother, Rex Lenton Pool, preceded him in death.

Jerry’s career in the foam industry took him around the United States and the world, where he solved production challenges and addressed air-quality and environmental issues with innovations and improved process technologies. In the United States, he retired from Future Foam Industries.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sara Ann Jennings Pool; two brothers, Jimmy Don Pool (Vivian) of California and Samuel Wade Pool (Patti) of Pennsylvania; three children, Micki Denise Millersmith (R.J.) of Arizona, David Wayne Pool (Kathy) of Illinois, and Brett Alan Pool of North Carolina; four stepchildren, Lee Ann Cox Mills (Don) and Barton Everette Cox, all of Tennessee, and Millie Lane Cox Wright (John) and Laurie Cox McFall (Mark), all of North Carolina; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July16, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Leland, 517 Village Road, NE, Leland, N.C., with Dr. Steve Ellis officiating.
