Frank Lee Callis, 75 of St. James, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Mr. Callis was born Jan. 6, 1941, in Tennessee. He was a dear man and a loving husband, father and friend. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport and a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus.
He had played semi-pro baseball and enjoyed golf, tennis, football and snow skiing. He also was a Little League baseball coach and a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union #210 in Connecticut.
Mr. Callis was preceded in death by his father, Verner Callis; his mother, Frances Darke; his stepfather, Kelly Mantlo; his stepmother, Frances Callis; and a brother, William Kelly Mantlo.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Callis of St. James; three sons, Frank Lee Callis Jr. (Penny) of Springfield, Tenn., Stephen Alan Callis (Sheila) of Sadlersville, Tenn., and Douglas Steven Callis (Mary) of Killingworth, Conn.; two daughters, Donna Jean Broussard (Lee) of Severna Park, Md., and Elana Beers (Emmett) of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; a brother, Michael Wayne Callis (Mary Alice); two sisters, Greta Stainback (Ed) and Diane Whitlow (Lonnie); 12 grandchildren, Bradley Callis, Adam Callis, Stephen Callis, Andy Callis, Eric Callis, Michael Callis, Julia Callis, Kelly Broussard, Jennifer Broussard, Patrick Broussard, Mitchell Beers and Alec Beers; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be at noon on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Trent Watts officiating.
