Lennis “L.W.” Walker Benton, 74, of Castle Hayne, surrounded by family and loved ones, left this world on Sunday, July 10, 2016, to be with his Lord and Savior, where there is no more pain and suffering.

He was born April 20, 1942, in Brunswick County, N.C., the son of the late Matthew Benton and Maggie Smith Benton. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Lonzia J. Benton.

L.W. was a man of generous heart with enormous love for his family, a people person with an infectious laugh and smile. He enjoyed time spent gardening and fishing, but more than anything he loved to spend time in the company of family and friends, especially his adored grandchildren and great-grandchild.

He owned and operated Benton’s Heating and Air for more than 38 years.

Left to cherish his legacy are his devoted wife of 53 years, Mildred Hathway Benton; twin daughters, Connie Benton Robbins (Don) and Bonnie Guyton (Curtis); grandson, Adam Guyton (Brittany); granddaughter, Danielle Robbins; great-granddaughter, Reagan Grace Guyton; and due this September, his  first great-grandson; brother, Edison Benton (Laura); sister-in-law, Rachel Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be from 6 to 8  p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, 315 Willow Woods Drive, Wilmington, N.C. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, N.C.
