With just a few weeks to go before Wilmington native and NFL kicker Connor Barth heads to the bayou for training camp after being signed by the New Orleans Saints this offseason, Barth and his family are once again teaming up to host their annual summer kicking camp.
Athletes of all ages are welcome to attend free of charge. The camp will run from 5:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 at Scott Braswell Stadium on the campus of Hoggard High School. Campers are asked to bring a football and kicking tee, if possible.
Now in its fourth year, the one-evening camp is geared at helping athletes learn more about the ins and outs of kicking or to improve on skills already learned. Joining Connor will be his younger brother, Casey, along with their dad, Tom Barth. Attendees will also receive instruction on proper warmup techniques guided by local trainer Hudson Rose, who owns a strength and conditioning facility where Barth works out.
Connor and Casey Barth both played football at Hoggard and University of North Carolina. Despite holding several Tar Heel records, many of which had been held by his older brother, Casey Barth has since stepped away from football as a profession.
Connor was a free agent moving through the off season after being cut by Tampa Bay shortly after the 2016 NFL draft. He has since been picked up by the New Orleans Saints and will be competing for the place kicker job later this month.
