Patricia M Sherman, 71, of Sneads Ferry, N.C., formerly of Red Hook, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016, in North Carolina.
Born Nov. 26, 1944, in Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Maybelle (Keller) Stolz. She earned her education degrees from the State University of New York-New Paltz.
In New York, Pattie worked for many years at the Red Hook Central Schools, where she is remembered as an “icon of the district” as a teacher and principal at Mill Road School and assistant to the superintendent for curriculum. During this time she forged the relationship between the school and Bard College, creating the Arts in Education Program. Pattie was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa International Association of Professional Educators and was involved with the Dutchess County Arts Council.
Upon moving to Sneads Ferry, N.C. in 2002, Pattie continued her passion for public service as the head of the educational committee and a board trustee member of the Historical Society of Topsail Island, as well as curator, docent and educational camp assistant for the Missiles and More Museum. She also enjoyed spending time with others as a former president of Topsail Ladies and a devoted member of the Bunko Babes.
Pattie is survived by her husband of 28 years, Bob Yost, of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; her daughter, Tara (Todd Grieb), of Red Hook, N.Y.; her sister, Jacqueline Albers, of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; her loving grandchildren, Peyton Horst, Kelcie Horst and Trevor Grieb; a niece and nephew; and many extended family, colleagues and friends.
A Celebration of Life service in Pattie’s honor will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at Sneads Ferry Presbyterian Church, 776 NC-210, Sneads Ferry, N.C. A reception will follow at 11 a.m.
