Trubie Elbie Hewett, age 91, of Supply, N.C., passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Universal Health Care Center Brunswick of Bolivia, N.C.

He was born in Brunswick County on Oct. 3, 1924, the son of the late Herman Hewett and Mollie Evans Hewett, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Estelle Hewett, and three daughters, Phyllis Hewett, Mollie Hewett Langley and Marsha Kay Hewett.

Trubie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He owned and operated the “Molly Ray” shrimp boat and did various other jobs in the area.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary H. Simmons (Roger), of Supply, and Regina H. McHenry, of Shallotte; a brother, Frank Hewett, of Supply; a sister, Lena Mae Causey, of Shallotte; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special companion, his favorite dog “Molly,” who was always by his side.

A celebration of Trubie’s life will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at White Funeral and Cremation Service, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte, N.C. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2017, at Oak Grove Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the funeral home.
