Clara Estelle Wollenweber Weaver, 97, died peacefully after a short illness on Monday, July 4, 2016, at Davis Healthcare. She resided in the Walker-Taylor Cottage.

Clara was born on March 2, 1919, in Denver, Colo., to the late Dr. and Mrs. Louis C. Wollenweber, and was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Harding, and brother, Dr. Louis Wollenweber Jr.

She graduated from the University of Denver, where she was a member of Kappa Delta National sorority. She taught in the Denver Public Schools for several years. She married Dr. David O. Weaver on June 17, 1941. They moved to Arlington, Va., where she was employed by the Arlington County Schools, retiring in 1976. During this time, she was active in many church, school and community services.

Upon retirement, Clara and Dave moved to Henderson, N.C. for 10 years, then to Wilmington. Clara was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and a former member of Pine Valley Country Club, Cape Fear Camera Club, FAN Club, and the Johnson Bible School class at Wesley Memorial.

Clara is survived by one daughter, Susan Beale (Guy) of Wilmington; one son, David F. Weaver (Lynn) of Wilmington; three grandsons, Alex Weaver, Henry Weaver and Michael Beale; and one great-grandson, Chad Beale.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 8, with a memorial service following at 11 a.m. at the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1401 S. College Avenue. A private burial service for the family will be arranged in the future.

The family is very appreciative of the support given by the staff at Davis Healthcare and Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
