Yvonne Bullock Fowler, 81, of Delco, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday, July 2, 2016, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter in Wilmington.
She was born on March 26, 1935 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late James Wiley Bullock Jr. and Esther Hobbs Bullock. She was the loving wife of Cleon Fowler, who preceded her in death in 2010. She was a member of Riegelwood Baptist Church.
Mrs. Fowler graduated from Acme-Delco High School in 1952. She received her bachelor’s degree from Meredith College in 1956 and her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1959.
She taught fifth grade at Acme-Delco School for from 1956 to 1960, then moved on to a job at the Columbus County Board of Education in Whiteville, N.C. She was the instructional director for federal programs with the Columbus County Schools until retiring in 2003.
Mrs. Fowler loved to travel, crochet blankets, and play the organ and piano. She especially loved to cheer on her North Carolina Tar Heels in athletics, especially basketball. She took great joy from her family, friends and her work in education. However, her greatest joy was her love of the Lord.
She is survived by one daughter, Merry Esther Futch, (Edgar) of Riegelwood; one son, James C. Fowler; and one granddaughter, Merry “Lauren” Futch.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Riegelwood Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Delco Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, and at other times at the home of Merry Esther and Edgar Futch in Riegelwood.
