Roland Paul Efford, 52, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016, from a long, progressive auto-immune disease. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Born March 12, 1964, in Reno, Nev., to Bernard and Yoshi Efford, he graduated from Cape Fear Technical Institute with a degree in electronics. He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed on the USS Theodore Roosevelt.

Roland was an active parishioner of St. Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach, N.C. He grew up in the parish and his love and passion was to serve others. Roland was a 4th-degree Knight, Right to Life member, sacristan, eucharistic minister, usher and was involved in many other ministries. He also was a weekly volunteer at the Good Shepherd.

Roland was a generous and loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He did not know a stranger and will be greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior.

Roland is survived by many who loved him, including his father, Bernard Efford; sister, Susan Gialenios; brother-in-law, Philip Gialenios; nieces, Gabrielle and Nikki; lifelong friends, Alan Dittmer, Rendell Parker III and Rendell’s children, Jordan Elizabeth Parker (Roland’s goddaughter) and Sydney Ashton Parker.

Roland’s funeral mass will be at noon Thursday, July 7, 2016, at St. Therese Catholic Church, Wrightsville Beach. The family will hold a visitation service from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Andrews Mortuary, 4108 S. College Road. Donations in Roland’s name can be made to either St. Therese Right to Life ministry or The Good Shepherd.
