John William Lowe Sr. 72, Army vet of Vietnam War, Bronze Star recipient

John William Lowe Sr., 72, of Boiling Spring Lakes, passed away Friday, July 1, 2016, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

Mr. Lowe was the son of the late John Thaddeus Lowe and Florence Mae Slaughter Lowe. He also was preceded in death by a son, John William Lowe, Jr.

Mr. Lowe was a U.S. Army who served in the Vietnam War. He served the Army for 20 years, receiving a Bronze Star, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a longtime member of Ocean View United Methodist Church in Oak Island, where he helped with the Pen Pal Ministry and Karios.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Linda Hancock Lowe; two sons, Michael Lowe of Boiling Spring Lakes and Rob Lowe of Supply; a sister, Barbara Garcia of California; and one grandson, Cameron Lowe.

A memorial service with military honors will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Ocean View United Methodist Church in Oak Island, N.C. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
