He worked for the Department of the Army as a computer specialist at Fort Monmouth, N.J., where he received six Outstanding Performance ratings during his career, a record at that time.

Upon moving to Brunswick County in 1993, he worked at the Brunswick Beacon until he retired in 2006. He was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees associations and American Legion Post 346, Neptune, N.J.

Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra (Maher); sons, Steven (Rebecca) of Hickory and William (Rebecca Gricus) of Carolina Beach; sister, Ann Gallo of West Long Branch, N.J.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and beloved nieces and nephews. Bill left behind many friends, but especially his best buddies, Alton and E.B. Milliken, who shared his love of bluegrass, racing, laughing hard and loving life.

Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Village Point United Methodist Church. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. after visitation. A reception will follow at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shallotte Point Fire Department First Responders, 4126 Pigott Road S.W., Shallotte, NC 28470. They are the rock we leaned on, and a blessing to the community.
