Betty Jean Carney, 78, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, at her home. She was born in Wilmington January 22, 1938, the daughter of the late Robert S. Wilkins and Odie King Wilkins.

Betty was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church for 13 years and enjoyed spending time in fellowship with others. She loved her career as a waitress at Merritt Burger House and retired after 50 years. Betty loved to spend time with her family, taking care of her family members and being at all the family functions.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Ann Price.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, James Carney (Mary), Michael Carney (Angie) and Sheldon Carney; daughter, Velda Gay (Alan); 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Stokley; brother, Cecil Ward; son-in-law; Robert Price; feline companion, Louie; and numerous other loving family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home, Wilmington Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Winter Park Cemetery, Wilmington.
