Daisy Irene Benton Walker, 95, of Wilmington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2016. She was an avid gardener and quilter.

She was born in Brunswick County on January 6, 1921, to the late Loucresie Allen Benton and George Franklin Benton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Curtis James Walker; and daughter, Loucresie Irene Walker Mercer.

She is survived by her children, Betty Walker Watkins, Nancy ‘Billie’ Walker Sundquist, and her husband, Sunny, James Franklin ‘Butch’ Walker, and his wife, Edna; sister, Aleene Benton Thorpe; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. with Daisy’s grandson, Robert James ‘Sport’ Mercer, officiating. Interment followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd,, Wilmington. Pallbearers were Greg Hall, Josh Thompson, Billy Futch, Austin Edwards, Cameron Casteen, Bryan Gerganous, Tommy Edwards and Roy Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation.
