Topsail’s Berne named All-American; updated college summer league stats is your source for free news and information in the Wilmington area.

While power hitting first baseman Mason Berne has been spending the last few days helping out at UNCW summer camps ahead of his junior year on campus after transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College, the Topsail High School alum continues to rack in postseason accolades.

After being named National Junior College Athletic Association Region 10 Player of the Year earlier this spring, Berne was recently honored as a Second-Team All-American among NJCAA Division I players for his tremendous spring. He was sixth in the country with 22 home runs to go along with a .381 batting average and 67 RBI’s.

Berne’s average increased more than 80 points from hitting .299 as a freshman, while increasing his home run total nearly six-fold.

Other college athletes competing among various summer leagues this fall have already played nearly a dozen games over the past month. Below is a list of local ballplayers and updated stats, according to their respective team.
