John Royce Morgan, 93, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington. He was born in Crisfield, Md., to Barney and Evelyn Morgan.
John was a World War II veteran who served as a cook in the U.S. Army. Afterward, he attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. Mr. He was the president and co-owner of Barefoot Bedding Company in Wilmington for 35 years. A longtime member of Pine Valley Church of God, he served as a Sunday school teacher and in church leadership.
In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Reggie, Bill and David Morgan.
Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Marion Barefoot Morgan; son, Don Morgan (Jan) of Wilmington; granddaughters, Julie Morgan Beasley (Billy) of Wilmington and Amie Morgan Brendle (Rich) of Winston-Salem; great-grandchildren, Morgan Brendle and MacKay Brendle; sister, Anne Morgan Windsor (Earl) of Salisbury, Md.; brother, Frank Morgan of Crisfield, Md.; and sister-in-law, Hattie Morgan of Wilmington.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 20, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel with graveside military honors following in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
