Orain ‘Pat’ Cavenaugh, 82, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, June 13, 2016. Born in Duplin County,

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Cavenaugh worked for Rippy Cadillac for 56 years. He always said it was never a job, it was a joy. He loved being a mentor to others and talking to all the people who came through the doors of the dealership. He took pride in the loyalty and compassion the Rippy family has for their employees, customers and community. He was an active member of Windermere Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder in the church. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and working in his yard. His kindness and ability to put a smile on the face of anyone, whether a stranger or friend, will forever be in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fennel and Rosa Cavenaugh; and son-in-law, Thomas ‘Al’ King.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 61 years, Pearl Cavenaugh; daughter, Debbie King; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Windermere Presbyterian Church, 104 Windemere Road, Wilmington, with Pastor John F. Pflug Jr. officiating. Military honors will be presented by an honor guard from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the memorial service.

We would like to thank the doctors and staff of New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Dr. Andrew Schreiber and staff of Zimmer Cancer Center for their care. To the nursing staff of the Coronary Care Unit, 6th floor and 7th floor, we would like to thank you for your dedication and compassion, not only to Orain, but also to his entire family.
