Minnie R. Sellers, 90, ‘matriarch of the community’ who worked until the age of 85

Minnie R. Sellers, 90, of Winnabow, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center following a long illness. She was born on November 2, 1925, in Winnabow, the daughter of Esther L. Hinson and Creasy Reynolds.

She preceded in death by her parents; husband, Levy Windell Sellers; and grandson, Jeffrey Ross Asbury.

She is survived by three daughters, Betty S. Calhoun, (the late Tommy), Barbara Gail Fussell, (Elwood) and Gloria S. (Honey) Ashley; seven grandchildren; the Rev. Tony Calhoun, Virginia (Sissy) Socha, John C. Calhoun, Wendell (Rod) Ashley, Richard Eric Asbury and Shaun E. Ashley; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, James Robert Sellers; and sister, Delores Gore Lynch.

Minnie worked all of her life, until the age of 85. The last 15 years of her working career were spent at Tri-Tech Forensics in Southport, where she was honored with a grand sendoff upon her retirement. She was an Avon representative for 25 years, enjoying her many friends and customers. She was the matriarch of the community, enjoyed by all.
