Wesley O. ‘Wes’ Howell, 72, died at home on Friday, June 3, 2016, of complications from Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia, from which he had been suffering for the last two years.

He was born in Mount Holly to Hubert and Bobbie Howell. He married his college sweetheart, Susan Huffstetler, 50 years ago, and they were blessed with two sons, Christopher and Jonathan.

Wes was an accomplished businessman. He owned and operated the Wes Howell Volvo, Saab, Audi and VW Dealership, and the Closet Factory. In addition, he was a partner in the Holden Beach Marina. He was also honored to sit on the board of directors of BB&T bank for more than 20 years.

Wes was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jonathan.

Wes’ wife, Susan, is joined by many family and friends in cherishing his memory; son, Christopher Howell; three brothers, Henny (Betty), and daughter, Carissa; Robin (Celeste), and Richard (Carolyn); two brothers-in-law and their families, Sam and Susan Huffstetler, and their children, Alison and Raleigh, Lee and Linda Huffstetler.

The family especially wants to thank caregiver Orlando Maldonado; the community Health Care and Hospice-palliative care division caregivers Sara, Cindy, Mazie and Karen; and Home Again Services caregiver Robert Lurch.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, in Oleander Gardens.
