Danny Joe Todd, 68, of Rocky Point, died Monday, June 6, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter, Wilmington. He was born in Loris, S.C., on September 28, 1947, son of Mae Ellis Smith Todd and the late H. Daniel Todd.

Danny was a 1966 graduate of New Hanover High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Mekong Delta from 1967 to 1971 in the ‘Brown Water’ Navy aboard the USS Satyr, a World-War-II-era LST used as a support craft for river patrol in Vietnam. Danny was a Civil War buff and could be found examining Civil War battlefields on weekends, locating artifacts from that era, reading history books about the Civil War and collecting maps and coins.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Cheryl Todd Willoughby; and niece, Wendy Brigman Wilson.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his sister, Barbara Blanton (Tony); brother, Michael Todd (Lisa); special friend, Betty Crews; nephews, Tony Brigman (Dana), Chris Willoughby, Jackson Todd and Kevin Todd; and grandnieces, McKenna, Morgan and Maya Brigman and Isabella, Madelyn and Adrian Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, in Oleander Memorial Gardens, 396 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, with military honors.

Danny was a generous soul who liked to anonymously help family, friends and strangers. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to veterans groups or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.
