Peggy Edwards Sawyer, 81, of Southport, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mrs. Sawyer was born December 20, 1934, in Pitt County, daughter of the late Jim and Ethel Gordon Edwards. She was a lady of strong faith, a member of Trinity Worship Center and had a servant’s heart. Mrs. Sawyer enjoyed cooking for her family as well as all of her church friends and family. She was a devoted wife, mother and Nana; she will be sorely missed.
Mrs. Sawyer was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Edwards.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 51 years, Jimmy Ray Sawyer of Southport; son, Randy Coghill, and his wife, Donna, of Greenville; daughters, Carolyn Everette, and her husband, Johnny, of Pinetown, and Cindy Parker, and her husband, Richard, of Southport; brother, Rudolph Edwards of Concord; sister, Betty Jean Bonds, and her husband, Lewis ‘Jr.,’ of Williamston; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sawyer also leaves her constant feline companion, ‘Shadow.’
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Trinity Worship Center with the Rev. Scott Coghill and the Rev. Ron Capps officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m.prior to the service. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, in Edwards Family Cemetery, Greenville.
