Homer Nixon Davis Sr. 95, of Rocky Point, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at his home. He was born in Pennsylvania, July 25, 1920, son of the late Horatio John Davis Sr. and Izetta Jean Nixon Davis.
Mr. Davis was a dive bomber pilot in the Pacific serving with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and served later in the Korean Conflict as a transport pilot. He retired from Nationwide Insurance Company with 35 years of service. Mr. Davis was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was very active in community affairs in Hampstead and a member of the Planning Board of Pender County for many years. He was also a member of the Hampstead American Legion. As a member of the American Driving Society, he competed in many horse and carriage events over the years.
A brother, William Allen ‘Bill’ Davis, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Ann Connell Davis; three children, Homer Nixon Davis Jr. (Teresa) of Pittsboro, Marcy Davis Maley (Elmer) of Rocky Point, and Richard Lee Davis (Glenda) of Hampstead; three grandchildren, Amy Maley Lieseke (Daniel), Michael August Maley (Julie) and Bethann Carter; eight great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Horatio John ‘Jack’ Davis Jr. and Arthur Hugh Davis.
A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, June 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hampstead, with Bishop Sean Freeman Smith presiding. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the service hour. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
