James Dover ‘Sonny,’ ‘J.D.’ Colvin Jr., 81, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at his home in Devon Park with his family at his side.
Sonny was born in Wilmington Christmas Day 1934, the son of the late James Dover and Tessie Swann Colvin. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox, and went back to work for Mundy Construction Company at G.E. until he retired again at 65. He was a longtime member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.
He was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Heidi Ann Colvin Watson; and brother, Larry Swann Colvin.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Martha Moore Colvin; son, Jerry Colvin, and his wife, Marilyn, of Charleston, S.C.; daughter, Ginger C. Miller, and her husband, Peter, of Wilmington; brothers, Robert Colvin, and his wife, Suzanne, of Wilmington, and Danny Colvin, and his wife, Lisa, of Candler; grandchildren, Crystal C. Jarrell, and her husband, Mark, of Varnville, S.C., Rachel C. Randall, and her and husband, Travis, of Johns Island, S.C., Meredith M. Kelly, and her husband, Geoff, of Celebration, Fla., and Michael Miller of Wilmington; and great-grandchildren, Chandler and Grayson Watson of Summerville, S.C., and Anna Jarrell of Varnville, S.C.
The family will see friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 30, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel for a visitation. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, with the Rev. Steve Hall conducting services. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
